"Take time and trouble to keep yourself spiritually fit. Bodily fitness has a certain value, but spiritual fitness is essential both for this present life and for the life to come." 1 Tim. 4:7-8 (Ph)

Spiritual disciplines determine:

• My depth of character

• My direction in life

"He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers." Ps. 1:3 (NIV)

Spiritual disciplines come from being a disciple

"As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 'Come, follow Me,' Jesus said, 'and I will make you fishers of men.'" Matt. 4:18, 19 (NIV)

I had our creative team put together that commercial spoof just because I was tired of seeing that spoof beer commercial with the old guy who was supposed the most interesting man in the world. Now I have to admit, it's a funny commercial, but it's incorrect, because Jesus Christ is the most interesting man who has ever lived, and today we start our new series as we study the life of Christ, and I believe this is going to be the most informative and transformative series we've ever done in the new year, and I know it's going to change your life and it's going to change my life, because it's all about Jesus Christ and His life. Now we're going to have some fun in this series as well, and you won't believe this, but when we first showed that commercial spoof and announced the new series coming it, there happened to be a guy in the service who is the star of that goofy beer commercial. He was in one of the services, and he got really upset at me. He thought I was trying to make fun of him, and he said that he is brilliant, he is very interesting, and he said it would be okay if I would allow him to come to each service during this series and answer questions on the topic that we'll be talking about that day. Well, I didn't really want him to come to the church and be up here on stage with me, just because he's kinda weird, but I thought that um ... I thought that we could at least him answer the questions on video, so I proposed some questions to him about the topics we'd be studying. Today's topic is the disciplined life, because we all want to get more disciplined in the near year, so I wanted to know what he would say about discipline, and the first question I asked was, "What about physical discipline, working out and exercising?". We all want to do that this year and get in better shape this year, so I asked him his advice on working. Just watch.
