• Luke 15:11-24 (NIV)
Our lives get out of balance when we disconnect from our Heavenly Father
1. WHY?
• Misplaced values
"Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living." Luke 15:13 (NIV)
"But more than anything else, put God's work first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours as well." Matt. 6:33 (CEV)
• Misguided voices
2. WHERE ARE YOU?
----
Jesus Christ is the most interesting man who ever lived and that is why our new series is a study of the life of Christ because as we focus on Christ's life, our lives come into focus. Today we are talking about something we all desperately need, the balanced life. Now in this series we are having some fun as we are asking that old guy from the goofy beer commercial who claims to be the most interesting man who has ever lived some questions about the weekend's topic and so we are talking about the balanced life and I have to say that he seems a little imbalanced to me because he was very interesting last weekend but a little bit different and in fact quite weird. It's like his elevator did not go all the way to the top. It was like the lights are on but nobody was home. He was like a couple sandwiches short of a picnic basket it seemed to me because, I don't know. Something wasn't quite right but I thought I would try it again so I asked him this week some pertinent questions that I know you would want to know like we all want to balance life's demands and the stresses of life so I asked him his advice on stress and here is what he had to say. It's very interesting.
If anything is worth doing, make someone do it for you. Stay thirsty my friends.
How does that have anything to do with stress? That is not very helpful but I also asked him about balancing our finances and saving and all that so here is his advice on saving. See what you think. It's interesting.
Give a gift card with no balance.
That's it. That is really a pretty good idea when you think about it though because if you give gift cards with no balance then they will basically think that there was something defective about the card and they will be to embarrassed to come back and ask you about it and so they will think that you did something really nice but it won't cost you a dime. That is pretty good. The guy is pretty smart. You have to admit. That can change your whole life, that kind of advice.
