We play God by trying to control everything and by judging others.

"You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." Matt. 7:5 (NIV)

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged." Matt. 7:1 (NIV)

Stop playing God and surrender to His will.

The Prayer of Surrender

"May your kingdom come; may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Matt. 6:10 (GN)

Surrendering to God's Will means...

1. Trust God's Purpose During Disappointment

"And let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't get discouraged and give up."
Gal. 6:9 (LB)

Disappointments are really His Appointments

"Stop quarreling with God! If you agree with him, you will have peace at last, and things will go well for you." Job 22:21 (NLT)

2. Rest in God's Plan During Delays

"Surrender yourself to the Lord and wait patiently for him."
Psalm 37:7a (GW)

Of all the big blockbuster movies this summer, one of the biggest has been Bruce Almighty. In fact this film grossed $85,000,000 in its opening weekend which more than doubled the gross for The Matrix on Memorial Day Weekend. Now in the film Jim Carey plays a guy named Bruce, a television news reporter, who just happens to have the worst day of his life, and he blames God for it. But God, portrayed by Morgan Freeman, has a surprise for Bruce up his sleeve. In fact God says, "Bruce, I'm going to give you my powers for seven days. I'm going to let you try your hand at playing God."

Now I watched this film, and I have to say I was really surprised that it had a great message. It just had a great message. Now Hollywood always has to throw in some junk. It just amazes me how they think they always have to throw in some trash to get people to go see the film so they always do that, unfortunately. But the film had a great message, and I think the popularity of Bruce Almighty is not just because Jim Carey is a really funny guy, though he is. I think you can attribute the success of the movie to the fact that most everyone of us at some time in our lives have thought about what it would be like to have God's powers for just a few days. Or at least we've wondered what it would be like if God answered all of our prayers instantly, just the way we ask. In fact, I was just wondering what it would be like if God answered all my prayers instantly; just the way I want him to. What would that be like, and what would it be like?

You'd think when I finally get hair, it'd be better hair than that! I mean, that was pathetic! (Laughter)
