We are in a series of talks on wisdom, and we have said that wisdom is the God-given ability to see and live life from an eternal perspective. Wisdom gives you the ultimate advantage in life, because it gives you the ability to make choices based on the big picture rather than temporary circumstances. We have been studying the book of wisdom, Proverbs, and the book of Proverbs is really a tale of two people: the wise person and the foolish person. All through the book of Proverbs is says the wise person does this, and the wise person does this, and the wise person does this, but on the other hand the fool does that, and the fool does that, and the fool does that, and the fool does that. And so it's this contrast between the wise person and the foolish person. Now most of us are experts at recognizing foolish behavior in the lives of other people, but it's another story all together when it comes to recognizing my own foolish actions and words and choices and behavior. Now I can spot fools all around me, but it's really difficult to spot the foolish behavior in my life. How many of you remember the balloon boy incident that happened a few months back? Yeah! You know it was where this weather balloon was flying through the skies of Colorado and everyone was told there was a little boy trapped inside, so media outlets from all over the world were following the story until we found out the little boy was not there at all; he was hiding in the attic and had been the whole time, and then we found balloon boy's dad, Richard Haney, was the one who perpetrated this hoax. He had orchestrated the whole stunt trying to get publicity so he could get on a reality show. It was one of the most foolish, stupid and psychotic stunts I have ever seen, and I was talking about it with our staff at one of our meetings the day after it happened, and we found out that this guy had done the whole thing, and it was just a really foolish stunt. We were talking about it, and one my pastors reminded me that at Woodlands Church we have never had a balloon boy incident, but we did have a balloon man incident.
