The children don't grow up, bodies get weaker but our hearts _____, with just a little God got the brimstone turning every good thing to _____.
One of my favorite books as a kid was Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. Of course it's about a little boy named Max who breaks out of his mundane predictable and boring world into this wild world of adventure, risks and wonder. We are in a series I am calling Where the Wild Things Are and its all about capturing the wonder of an untamed God. It is really my hope in this series that we will all break out of the rut of a passionless existence that we so easily get stuck in and really discover the wonder and adventure of following the untamed God with our whole heart. You see, our biggest problem is we try to put God in a box. We try to fit God into our own little image of who we think he is or who we think he should be for our own selfish purposes and who we want him to be instead of really discovering who God is. We put God in a box and we make him small, safe and harmless and tame but God refuses to be boxed in. You cannot contain and you cannot control him. Whenever I put God in a box I also put myself in a box and really isn't that what we try to do so often in life is we try to create this safe little box around our lives and we try to make it really comfortable. I mean it's a comfortable box and we try to wall out all risks and our number one goal in life becomes to be comfortable, safe, secure, avoid all risks but you were never made to live a comfortable life. You were made to live a passionate life, to be fully alive taking risks in faith and following the untamed God with all your heart. That's why you're here. That's what you were made for and whenever we try to put God in a box we end up putting ourselves in a box and the walls start to close in and suffocate our passion and wonder. They begin to suffocate the purpose for why we are here and so really the secret to recapturing that wonder and that passion is discover a little bit more of who God really is and not who want him to be. Then let God by God in my life. Let God be who he really is in my heart and in my life and today we are going to look at God's wild and untamed love for us.
