"The apostles said to the Lord, 'Increase our faith!' He replied, 'If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you.'" Luke 17:5-6 (NIV)
"... if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain,'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."Matt. 17:20-21 (NIV)
• IT'S NOT THE GREATNESS OF YOUR FAITH; IT'S THE REALNESS OF YOUR FAITH THAT MATTERS
"Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up." 1 Cor. 8:1 (NIV)
• IT'S NOT THE AMOUNT OF YOUR FAITH; IT'S THE OBJECT OF YOUR FAITH THAT MATTERS
WEIRD FAITH...
1. BELIEVES GOD FOR BIG THINGS.
"For nothing is impossible with God." Luke 1:37 (NIV)
"I can do all tings through Him who strengthens me." Phil. 4:13 (NASB)
2. OBEYS GOD IN SMALL THINGS.
----
I want to start today by asking you sort of a weird question. Which one of these two animals are more likely to kill you, first this menacing shark or this cuddly deer? The answer of course is the deer. In fact, Bambi is 300 times more likely to kill you by colliding with your car than being eaten by a shark, but most of us don't get too frightened at night when we go driving in our cars. We don't think I can't go out tonight. I'm going to stay home because if I get in my car and I drive there may be a dangerous deer lurking around the bend ready to jump out and kill me, but most of us are very afraid of going into a dark ocean at night because we are afraid there might be man eating shark lurking in those dark waters just waiting for me to come in and swim. It just sounds normal that the shark is more likely to kill you, but it is not true. You see, normal can be very misleading. You can be on the normal path and it can be very comforting because the normal path is always the crowded path and when you look around and see all of these people walking the normal path with you it makes you feel better, but it is still the wrong path because the normal path leads to feeling overwhelmed with an overcrowded schedule, being stressed out all of the time with no margin, no time for the things that matter most, no overarching purpose in your life and no peace and Jesus said you've got to get off of the normal road onto the narrow road. That's why we are in the series we are calling Weird - Because Normal Isn't Working, and Jesus said some weird things about faith that are so true.
I want you to open your Bibles to Luke Chapter 17 and then open to Matthew 17 and kinda hold those two places because we are going to look at two passages today.
