How many of you guys ate some corn flakes for breakfast? Raise your hand. Yeah, it is one of the most popular cereals. Now, how many of you when you think of corn flakes think of medicine? Now most people realize that many of our colas and soft drinks were created by pharmacists and doctors as medicine to cure things like stomach ulcers and other ailments. They didn't really do that, but they tasted really good. The same thing is true of corn flakes. It was invented as medicine. In fact, Dr. Less Parrott in his book "Crazy Good Sex" tells the true story of Kellogg's corn flakes and after you hear it you'll never think of corn flakes the same again. It was developed by a physician in Battle Creek, Michigan, who felt that sexual activity caused things like cancer, urinary disease, epilepsy and insanity. Even sexual relations in marriage he said caused these things and were so detrimental so he and his wife slept in separate bedrooms their whole married life. His solution to this problem - corn flakes. Dr. John Harvey Kellogg created a mixture of oatmeal and cornmeal. He baked it into biscuits and then he chopped it up into flakes and he would prescribe it to his patients to diminish human sex drive. Kellogg's Corn Flakes. Who would have thought that is the true story of who these things got started and some of you guys are going so that's been my problem corn flakes. Who would have known? So you don't have to watch those commercials during the football games. You don't need a little blue pill, you just need Honey Nut Cheerios. Stop with the corn flakes. Kellogg's Corn Flakes became a huge hit not because of the crazy claims of Kellogg, but because they tasted great. Corn flakes survived, but unfortunately some of Kellogg's views about sex also survived and some Christians when they think of sex, consciously or subconsciously think dirty, wrong, bad and nothing could be further from the truth. God created sex. He invented it. It is a beautiful, wonderful gift of God to bring pleasure, passion and procreation in the marriage relationship.
