----

Have you ever had a plan that you thought was just perfect and you had it all laid out, everything lined up and then it all goes wrong and you are not quite sure what to do. You have your plan, you have everything perfectly in order, and you think this is going to be a great thing for God, for me, for everyone else and then the plan goes up in smoke. Maybe you can relate to this scene in Apollo 13. Probably all of Houston can relate to this. Watch this.

Those famous words seem to ring true in an age of corporate scandal, a tumultuous stock market, Middle East turmoil and an uncertain economy. But, I want to say to you this morning that Houston we have an answer and that answer is found in this book in God's Word. That is why I am in a series I am calling "Rock Solid in a Shaky World". We are learning how to build our lives on the promises of God. I want you to take out your outlines from your program because today we are going to look at how to rocket high above the world's problems. If you'd like, open your bibles to Jeremiah 29:11. That is our promise for today -- how to soar above life's problems. God's promise over problems. But, before we look at that promise I want us to look at another promise. Jesus' promise in John 16:33. Look at that with me. "In this world you will have trouble." So God promises you that in life you are going to have problems. Now, isn't that encouraging today? Folk's life is just a series of problems. You are in one of three situations. Either you are just coming out of a problem or you are right in the middle of a problem, or you are just now heading into a problem. It's called life. But aren't you glad Jesus didn't stop there? He goes on in this verse. He says, "But take heart! I have overcome the world." Jesus says, yes, I am going to shoot straight with you. In life you will have problems that is part of what life is. Don't think that one-day in your life when you get through one little problem then it will be smooth sailing and you will never have any more problems. That will just cause a lot of stress in your life. If you think that once I get through this little problem everything is going to be great. Once I get through this big situation, then it is smooth sailing from here on out. If you think that, you are going to have a lot of stress in your life because as soon as you get through one problem another one crops up.
