1. GUIDE THEM WITH LOVE AND LIMITS
• Prov. 23:13 (LB)
2. GUIDE THEM TOWARD THEIR UNIQUE PATH
----
When my younger brother, Brent, was nine or 10 years old he went on a trip to Kenya with my parents. A guide was taking them around when he suddenly stopped. Right before they were to walk into this big, open field with grass up to their waist the guide said, you might want to stay close to me because the cobras love this tall grass. They hide in this grass and every year a few people from the villages around here die when they step on cobras. So, walk right behind me. Now, my younger brother is 11 years younger then I am, but he's the smart one in the family. He is now a medical doctor and he said, Kerry, I was smart enough to stay right behind that guide. Where he stepped, I stepped. My feet went into his footprints. When he stopped, I stopped. When he started, I started. I needed that guide. Folks, today, children need a guide. They need a guide that will lead by example. To walk them through the jungles of life. The dangers in our society are far worse then a cobra. I was watching CNN the other night and in the same news segment they talked about a new terrorist threat to our kids. They talked about a young boy who was kidnapped from his home. They had one story on the perils of the Internet with pornography and pedophiles who stalk children. Then I thought - well, you throw in the traditional dangers like drugs and alcohol, which our kids are faced with at much earlier ages, and how do you protect kids today? How do we protect our kids? I am concluding the series that we have been in the last several weeks as we have been looking at God's promises in How to Build a Rock Solid Life in a Shaky World. Today we are going to look at how to build rock solid children in a messed up world. How to build positive kids in a negative world. This message is not only for parents, it's for teachers and coaches. It's for anyone. Hopefully all of us who want to make a difference in the life of a child. Our children need examples. Examples who will lead the way by example that we can follow in. Our kids need someone to follow. I hope this will be encouraging to parents today. In fact, I want you to take out an encouraging promise. God's Promise for parents. It's there in your notes. I have four kids, so I cling to this promise often. I know I'll carry this around with me for the rest of the week. Hopefully you will memorize this promise and put it into your life. Proverbs 22:6. We parents need all the help we can get and God has help for us today with his promise for parents. Would you read it out loud with me? Just read this promise out loud with me.
