When I think of the town, Mayberry RFD, the very first thing that comes to my mind is simple values. Even the theme song on the Andrew Griffith Show was simple - a whistle and a guitar. Mayberry was this place that was uncomplicated and laid back. Whether you were at Goober's Gas Station or Floyd's Barber Shop, you could always count on running into some friendly people with simple yet very strong, values like faith, family and friends.
Well, today we're concluding the series we've been in the last several weeks that I'm calling Retro Vision. We're having a lot of fun with the classic television shows of the past, but more importantly we're looking to God's Word to learn some valuable truths on how to get back to a clear-life vision.
Now this morning, I want to take you back to Mayberry in hopes that you'll take Mayberry home with you and simplify your life by living from your values. Now Mayberry only had one stop light so it's so easy to race through Mayberry without ever noticing it on your way to the big city. And, it's so easy for us to race right past our values on the way to accomplishing a great vision. But, if you do that, you miss the whole point of life.
Now everyone knows to have a successful business you need a clear vision. To live a successful life, you need a clear vision; but, my values are the foundation of my vision. My vision comes out of my values. So, if I lose my values, my vision will crumble. You see the values of a business are the foundation of a business. So, if you lose your values, you'll lose your business. Your business will crumble. The foundation is the values. My vision comes out of my values. The foundation for a great life is values. If you give up your values, your life will unravel.
Now for us to learn how to get the right values that power our vision, we need to go back to the original Mayberry - the Garden of Eden. God created the ultimate Mayberry, the Garden of Eden, and it was His plan that we would love Him and love others and enjoy life in total fulfillment. But, Adam and Eve were deceived. They bought into the original lie, and 2 Corinthians 11 says it's the same lie that you and I buy into today. Look at it with me. "But I am afraid, lest as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds should be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ."
