We are starting a new series this week that I am calling Rescue as we are looking at how God rescued Noah and his family from a worldwide flood to discover how God wants to rescue us from the flood of anxiety and fear that fills our hearts and minds and threatens to drown our hopes and dreams.

I want you to open your Bibles to Genesis Chapter 6. Here we see that in Noah's day everyone had chosen to reject God's goodness in their life and the Bible says the earth was filled with violence, murder and wickedness. Some people mistakenly think that this story is all about God's punishment and God's wrath because he loves to punish people but really they are missing the whole point. This account of Noah is really a story of God's mercy and grace and his power to rescue. You see, God comes to Noah, this guy who didn't have it all together and wasn't perfect but he loved God with all of his heart and God says Noah, I am going to send a worldwide flood to destroy all evil but I want you to build a rescue ship because I am a God of a second chance and every one who enters this ark of mercy and grace will be rescued and when God came and told Noah this he was 500 years old at the time and God allowed human beings to live a lot longer before the flood then after the flood the scripture says that he said that is too long and he limited our years but Noah was 500. Now I don't know what Noah looked like or felt like at 500 in that day. Maybe he didn't look a day over 450. I don't know but I just have to think he was an old guy and it shows me that you are never too old for God to do something great in your life. It is never too late for God to do something amazing in your life because God is the God of second chance so it doesn't matter where you have been or what you've done yesterday.
