We're in a series that I'm calling "Rescue" as we are learning life lessons from the life of Noah and one of the most important but overlooked lessons in Noah's story is that when God rescues you, he rescues you for a reason. When God takes you through a problem he gives you a higher purpose. That was certainly the case with Noah. God told Noah to build a rescue ship because a worldwide flood of destruction was on its way and everyone who would enter the ark with God's mercy and grace would be rescued but only Noah and his family believed God and obeyed. They entered the ark and God brought them through the flood. When God rescues you, he rescues you for a reason. He brings you out of the mess to give you a mission. He brought Noah and his family through the flood to give them a future so let's look at what that is.
Open your Bibles to Genesis chapter 9 and there is just one verse that is our key verse today but it's a powerful verse so would you stand in honor of God's word and just read it out loud with me. In Genesis 9:1 it says, "Then God blessed Noah and his sons and told them, 'Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth".
Lord, I know that you want to bless us and you want to rescue us through the floods that come into our lives and so I pray that you would show us today how you take those floods that seem so negative that come our way and you turn them, Lord, into really a way to get to the place of blessing in our lives, so help us see that and I pray you would change our hearts and our lives from your word today so that we could be in a position to receive your unmerited blessings. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. You may be seated.
I want you to underline the phrase "God blessed Noah". It's interesting that Noah had to go through the flood to arrive at the place of blessing and that's another very powerful lesson from Noah's story and it's this. Your greatest barrier is often the bridge to your greatest blessing. The greater barrier you are facing right now is the very bridge that God wants to use to get you to the place of blessing. So, your greatest obstacle that you are facing right now is really your greatest opportunity. It is just brilliantly disguised as a problem but God wants you to see it. You see, God did not take Noah out of the flood. He had to go through the flood. God did not take Noah out of the flood. He just used the flood to get Noah where he needed to be, that place of blessing.
