When I was a kid, I loved to play pirates and pretend like I was sailing on the seven seas in search of buried treasure. Now, I like to watch pirates like Captain Jack Sparrow on the big screen. And, apparently America agrees with me because Pirates of the Caribbean III that's coming out next month is expected to be one of the biggest grossing films of all time. There's just something intriguing and romantic about sailing and treasure maps and pirates. But, there's nothing romantic about the modern-day pirates of stress, anxiety and fear that steal the joy right out of life. So, I'm starting a new series today that I'm calling Pirates - Reclaiming my Stolen Treasure because God has a plan for your life that's filled with treasure that money can't buy - treasures like peace of mind. Peace seems to illusive in our world today, and it is even more illusive in our own lives. Then there's the treasure of joy. You see happiness depends upon what's happening around me, and if my circumstances are perfect, then I'm happy. But, if my circumstances change, then I lose my happiness. Joy, on the other hand, is a priceless gift of God that defies all circumstances. You see God has given us the treasure of confidence, purpose, peace, passion in life and many, many more treasures, but maybe you're wondering if this is God's plan for me, then why am I not experiencing these treasures in my own life. And, that's because the pirate, Satan, tries to steal these God-given treasures. He has a plan for your life, and it's to steal the treasures that God has already given you.
I want you to look at our key verse for the whole series. It's John 10:10. "The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. But, I have come that they may have life and have it to the full." Satan wants to steal your joy, kill your dreams and destroy your relationships. In this series we're going to dig deep into God's word to discover some buried treasure because many of the gifts that God has already given us we bury them deep in our hearts and we don't even know that they are there because Satan tries to steal them from us by wounding our hearts.
