It was 19 year ago this week that Chris and I and our family took a step of faith, and I resigned from the traditional church that I had been pastoring, and we came out to this area with no members, no place to meet and very little funds. We just had a dream in our heart to plant a church that will help people experience Jesus Christ rather than religion. So, we sort of kicked religion out the door, and I remember we would tell everyone that we met out here about this new church, and 19 years ago this coming Thursday night, we had our first meeting in a home, and 15 people gathered, and five were my family, but we were so excited because we knew God had planted this dream in our hearts, and so I shared with them how this church would be all about Jesus and built on his Word, and it would be all about pointing people to Christ and kicking religion out the door, and many of you know the story that they weren't quite as excited as I was because only eight came back the next week, and I'm not great at math, but I could really figure out that trend line pretty quickly. We had lost half our congregation in a week and that meant that if the trend kept going that way we had one more week left, and so I remember Chris and I were so discouraged. I'll just be completely honest. We were so down, and we sort of got away that next weekend and just prayed and just tried to seek the Lord, and we just poured our hearts out to Him and said: Lord, we thought we were following your voice, we thought we were obeying you and we really feel like you put this on our heart. And did we just miss your voice completely? Did we just miss it because I think we've just blown it here? And as we prayed, God really impressed upon our hearts: Kerry and Chris, it's not your church, it's my church and all you need to do is keep stepping out in faith and standing on my promises and standing in obedience and leave the results to me, and if just one person comes to Christ, it's all worth it. That was really impressed upon our hearts so clearly that God was speaking to us - if just one person comes to Christ, it's all worth it, and it's God's church and only God can change a life and only God can work a miracle and so that took the whole pressure off.
