Only about ten percent of an iceberg is above the water line and visible. Ninety percent is beneath the surface. Just take a look at the picture of this iceberg that was taken off the coast of Newfoundland. Look at how much mass is beneath the surface. It's pretty amazing. But really everything we see in life is just the tip of the iceberg. Everybody's actions and reactions that we see every day are just surface issues. Only about ten percent of what's really going on in our lives, ninety percent is beneath the surface. But most people just deal with the surface issues. But if I really want to overcome the problems in my life I've got to go beneath the surface to the heart of the problem. If I really want the power to live the life that I was made to live I've got to go beyond the shallow surface to a whole new depth in life. That's why I'm starting a new series this weekend that I'm calling Iceberg, Living Beyond the Surface. We are going to dig deep over the next several weeks in God's Word to learn how to live beyond the surface, really to go to a whole new depth in life. When a ship sees an iceberg, really what they see if just what's on the surface. It looks like that's everything, but it's only about ten percent. What you see in life is just what's on the surface. It's only about ten percent of what's really going on. It's really just surface issues. For example, all relationship conflict, it's really just a surface issue. If you really want to solve relationship problems, you've got to go to a whole new depth, to the heart of the problem. But usually we just look at the relationship conflict and argue about surface issues and that's why some of you are arguing over the same things over and over and over again because you're not getting down to the root cause of the conflict, to the heart of the conflict. I wish Rosie and Donald Trump were here today. I think this could help them out. There is definitely something deeper going on there, but we won't deal with that today. We don't have time. Positive changes. You want to make positive changes in your life. You want to really have some resolutions to lose weight, to get in shape, to get organized, to break some bad habits and hang ups. All those are just surface issues. They are good things to do, but they are just surface issues. When you focus on the surface issue of will power to get those things done you fail. You've got to go beneath the surface to the heart of real power. All the decisions that you make in life. You see the results of the decisions, but you don't know why you make those decisions.
