We are concluding our two part series Dancing in the Dark. It's all about how to choose joy no matter what the circumstances and I want to get right into it this morning because there are four things that steal our joyful dance. The first is pride. King David danced before the Lord with unfettered joy when the Ark of the Covenant came back to Jerusalem but after he danced in celebration his wife Michael was very upset. She said you were so undignified. That was so undignified as king to dance in front of all those people. You embarrassed me completely to which David replied I will become even more undignified for my Lord to celebrate before him because I am dancing not for you or for anyone else. I am dancing for the Lord. Pride keeps us from dancing. Many times we are too dignified to dance. One of the biggest reasons we lose our joy is we take ourselves far too seriously. Most Christians take themselves far too seriously but they do not take God seriously enough. At Woodlands Church, we take God very seriously but we don't take ourselves too seriously. We're not afraid to laugh at ourselves. Speaking of not taking ourselves too seriously and not being afraid to laugh at ourselves, this last week I did a dance of tradition. My daughter Megan is a varsity cheerleader at the Woodlands high school and it's a longstanding tradition that the dads of the varsity cheerleaders do a dance and a cheer at the homecoming pep rally every year dressed like our daughters. Yes. Cheerleading uniforms, makeup, wigs, bows, pompoms. It's not a pretty site but we do it because we love our daughters and because this is probably out on YouTube and you are going to see it anyway. I am going to do a preemptive strike because I'm not too dignified to dance. I am going to show you this. I probably should have waited until Halloween because it's really scary but go ahead and roll the tape.

"Video playing" It's a little harder to get into this skirt than it was last year. It's just a good thing that I made cheerleader again. I'm having a bad hair day but it's a little humid out. Don't hate me because I'm beautiful. And they say cheerleading is not a sport. It is almost show time and we've got this thing down.
