We're in this series we're calling extraordinary as we're studying the life of Daniel in the Old Testament and what made Daniel so extraordinary was that every time the pressure was on, he chose faith. Remember in Daniel Chapter 6 as we looked at Daniel being rescued from the lions' den last weekend we saw that, but I want us to turn to Daniel Chapter 6 again and would you stand in honor of God's Word and just follow along with me because here we see after Daniel was rescued by God from the lions' den, here's what he says to the pagan king, Darius.
"Daniel answered, 'O king, live forever! My God sent His angel, and He shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, O king.' The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den. And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him because he trusted in His God."
Dear God, we thank You that You are the same God who lifted Daniel out of the lions' den and You're here right now to lift us out of the problems and the pressures that we face in our daily lives and I know every one of us here have stresses, problems, pain and I know some here today have carried in these burdens that are just crushing them and I pray today that You would meet us in such a way that we would realize how much You love us and that we would realize how powerful You are and that there's no problem we face that You cannot handle and that You'd work miracles in our lives over the next few moments to do something in our hearts Lord that changes us forever. For it's in Jesus name we pray, Amen.
You can be seated.
1. GOD'S PURPOSE TRANSCENDS MY TRIALS
And the first thing I want you to do today is underline the last part of that verse, of that passage "because he trusted in his God". Daniel put all his trust in his God. Now a lot of people have faith, they have faith in themselves, their own abilities and talents or they have faith in someone else or they have faith in faith itself, but that's not good enough. None of those are strong enough to hold you strong when the storms of life hit. Daniel placed his trust, all his faith in an extraordinary God. I mean to be honest, Daniel's faith was just ordinary. We look at the great heroes of the Bible and we think oh they're extraordinary. We can't relate to them. They do extraordinary things, but that's not the case at all. They're ordinary people like you and me.
