The Strange Case of the Unfaithful Wife (1 of 7)
Series: Hosea
David Davis
We call Hosea a Minor Prophet - but there was nothing "minor" about his message. We call it minor because of the brevity of his message - not because of the importance of his message. The book of Hosea is not what God has said...it is what God is saying. The emphasis of Hosea's message is on "The Love of God."
The Bible has a lot to say about love. The story of Hosea is a story of an unfortunate marriage. Hosea married a woman who was unfaithful to him. Her name was Gomer and she was unfaithful...she committed immorality...and she went off with other men and she got about as low as she could get. However, Hosea brought her back and redeemed her - restored her - and God used what Hosea did for his unfaithful wife...the wandering wife...as an illustration of the love of God.
There are three things we need to see.
I. THE SINFUL LOVES OF GOMER
II. THE SACRIFICIAL LOVE OF HOSEA
III. THE SUPERNATURAL LOVE OF JEHOVAH

It was exciting years ago to see the emphasis, begun by our Southern Baptist Convention, "True Love Waits" and all the young people all across our denomination that signed cards pledging moral purity and a commitment to wait until marriage before giving oneself sexually to another. This emphasis crossed denominational lines that included thousands of Catholic and Protestant young people all across America stressing abstinence until marriage instead of the world's message of "safe sex." There is no such thing apart from m ...
