How Do You Respond To God's Chastening? (3 of 7)

How you respond to God's chastening is very important! Obviously, none of us like those hammer blows that come upon us. It would be much easier to just give up - quit - and refuse to go through those times that God allows in our lives. We almost come to the position of saying - "I'm not going to let God work on me - it's too abrasive - it's too abusive - it hurts me; it hurts my ego - it hurts my pride - it may hurt my body - and I don't want it! I despise it!"
Another way you can respond is to faint. The Scripture says - "And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked." Romans 12:5
You may think that if you don't like it or if you don't want it that you won't get it. Wrong! You're going to get it whether you like it or not because He is working in you, both to will and to do of His good pleasure.
The fact that you despise the chastening of the Lord - the fact that you've given up on it doesn't mean He has given up on you. He just going to place you in a position to respond one way or the other to Him.
Then there is the proper response to those who are willing to accept the chastening of the Lord as His way of making you more like Jesus. The fruit of God's chastening is that it yields peace...you get happy!
It may be that you have gone a long time without experiencing genuine peace in your life. Perhaps you have forgotten what it means to be at peace...with God...with others...and with yourself.
Did you know that if you will work out with the chastening that God has given you - it will yield the peaceable fruit of righteousness? God will make things right and you will have peace in your heart.
