Covered in Surrender (15 of 16)
Series: Covered in Dust
Jeff Lynn
Matthew 16:13-25
INTRODUCTION
We are wrapping up this series next week as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.
Again, the goal over these last few months has been to look at the character and conduct of Christ in order to understand that these are the same qualities we are to manifest if we confess Christ as Lord.
What are some of these?
• Compassion: for those that we are to engage by serving them and sharing the gospel:
o The Demonic.
o The Despised
o The Diminished
• Truth and Grace:
o Proclaim and Protect Truth
o Project and Practice Grace
• Forgiveness:
o Rejoice That Our Debt Was Paid
o Release Those Indebted to You
• Love for God:
o Affection
o Adoration
o Allegiance
• Love for one another: 1 Peter 1:22-2:1
o Steps to Loving One Another:
? Salvation
? Obedience
? Purity
? Brotherly Love
? Sacrificial Love
o Hindrances to Loving One Another:
? Malice
? Deceit
? Hypocrisy
? Envy
? Slander
• Humility:
o The Picture of Humility
o The Practice of Humility
o The Power of Humility
We ought to be so connected to Him by abiding in Him and letting His Words abide in us, that our speech, faith, conduct, love, and purity emulate the very One with whom we identify.
Let me remind ourselves about what John wrote in 1 John 2:3-6:
Whoever says "I know him" but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.
1 John 2:3-6
We started by looking at how we manifest these; not by trying harder, but by allowing Christ to manifest Himself in us as we abide in Him.
There is NO WAY you can be covered in the dust of Jesus, which means to live in way of Jesus, if you are not spending time with Him and in His Word.
