What if at the moment you became a Christ follower God gave you a red box that was filled with diamonds and jewels and it was things that were so valuable you couldn't put a price tag on? I think this tangible treasure would be really easy to protect because we would be so attentive to making sure that we locked it away in a really safe place where no thief could get to it. But when you become a Christ follower, God in reality gives you something much more valuable than diamonds or anything that money can buy. He gives you a treasure trove of valuables like peace, purpose, fulfillment and meaning, passion, strength, forgiveness; and I could go on and on, but as we go through life we get distracted by things that aren't really that important, and we allow the thief, Satan, to come in and right under our noses steal away our most valuable treasures - the things that God has given us that we could never earn or deserve - these things that money could never buy - and then we wonder why we feel empty on the inside, and we wonder why we fell like we're always running on empty, on the verge of burnout, just numb, going through the motions of life but not experiencing the emotions of life, and it's because our treasure box is completely empty. The things that God said are yours, the things that He wanted us to have are just empty. There's nothing in there, and that's when we feel like we're running on empty.
Well in this series we've sort of gone back to a classic time to reclaim some classic values that are being taken out of our lives, our families, our relationships and our culture. And the series is really about reclaiming these things that are rightfully ours - things we don't deserve or can't earn but that God has won for us on the cross. And so today I want us to look at reclaiming our stolen strength. So if you're fatigued, if you feel like you're on the verge of burnout, if you feel like your life is out of balance and spinning out of control or if you're just worn out and tired, you need this message. We all need this message.
And I know some of you moms of preschoolers are going to really need this message because you have people coming along, oh take care of yourself, you've got to look out for yourself, you've got to get some me time for yourself, while you have all these preschoolers running around, and you're going, yeah right.
