You're still breathing, so you still have a chance. A chance to live the life you were made for. A chance to become the person God created you to be. As long as you still have breath, you still have a chance because we have a God of the second chance. We're in a series in the book of Jonah and today we are covering Jonah chapter 3 and we see all through the book of Jonah the theme is the God of the second chance. Now let's do a brief recap of the first two chapters. God calls Jonah to go to Nineveh and Nineveh is the most cruel and wicked city of that day and God says, "tell them the good news, I'm giving them a second chance if they'll repent." But Jonah doesn't like God's plan because he can't stand the Ninevites, so instead of going east to Nineveh he goes west, as far west as he can go, he's running from God, but he runs into trouble instantly and the boat he's on runs into a huge storm and the sailors throw him overboard, but God provides a great fish to redirect Jonah and to change his plan and it's in the belly of the great fish the whole story changes as Jonah turns to God and God turns to him and we're going to see today how God takes Jonah worst failure and turns it into Jonah's finest moment. So would you open your Bibles to Jonah chapter 3. Would you stand in honor of God's word and let's read it out loud together. "Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time, go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you. Jonah obeyed the word of the Lord and went to Nineveh." Lord I thank you so much that you are the God of the second chance and I know everyone in her Lord needs a new beginning, a fresh start in some area of their life and so I pray for everyone of us today that you speak to our hearts from your word in such a way that we'll never be the same again, in Jesus name we pray Amen.
You may be seated.
The Book of Jonah is a powerful picture of how God treats his children when we sin and come home to him. In the new testament the prodigal son came home and he came home and the father didn't give him a beating, he gave him a banquet, in fact the Bible says while he was still a long way off the father saw him and ran to him. We have a God who loves us so much, but no matter how far we run from him, if we'll just stop and we'll turn to him, he will run all the way to us and hold us in his arms and welcome us home.
