We're in this series I'm calling, "Question Everything", and we've seen that the Bible says that it's not only okay to ask spiritual questions and express your doubts, but it's essential to ask spiritual questions. In order to have a real faith, I have to struggle with tough questions and work through them, and in order to have a strong faith that doesn't crumble at the first sign of testing, I have to grapple with the most difficult questions. Now we went out on the street, and we asked people, "If you had one chance to ask God a question, what would it be?" And we got all kinds of answers. We put up the pictures here. Robin says, Why don't my grown children listen to me when I give them advice from my experience with God? Why don't my grown children listen to me is a good questions. Let's see. I'll try to pick some we've never seen before. Amber says: My father just passed away. Why would this happen now? Hmmm...so many difficult questions. Alyssa says, Why cancer? You know, I would have to say that those last two are kind of a theme that ran through a lot of the questions. The number one asked question had to do with the topic of suffering. You know, there would be questions like, Why cancer? or Why does God allow an earthquake in Haiti where innocent children die? or Why does a drunk driver who has been partying all night kill a single Mom who is driving to work in the morning? Why? When Chris and I were in Banda Aceh, Indonesia in 2001 right after the Tsunami hit and we were there to deliver aid and relief for orphans, because of the gifts you had given, but I remember going to one place there on the coastline where we saw this bridge that went out into the ocean, and Chris asked, Where does this bridge go to? What happened here?, and they said, Well, this went to a village of 10,000 people, but it's totally under water now. Everyone was killed. And it just took our breath away, and we had to ask, Why God? Why? I think that the question that rocks many people's faith and disturbs every one of our souls can be kind of tied all together with this question. Why do bad things happen to good people? Even more disturbing to me is, why good things happen to bad people? That bothers me a lot more. And the Bible does not give us all the answers to this really difficult question, but the Bible does say several things.
