2 Chronicles 36:11-21

Growing up as a kid, I went first through sixth grade to Catholic school. And one of the things that we did at my school, St. Nicholas, was every morning we would come out of the classroom and we would all gather, all the different grades, first through eighth, and we would stand by the flagpole. And they would raise the flag, and we would put our hand on our heart, and we would say these words: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." We said every morning the Pledge of Allegiance.

Now the Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 by a Baptist minister named Francis Bellamy. It was officially recognized in 1942. But now, in 1942, the Pledge didn't have the words "under God." The words "under God" came to be in 1954. They were added to combat godless communism. See, in the early 50s, you had the time called McCarthyism and the rise of communism, and America wanted to make a statement. We're not like the godless communists. We are one nation under God.

Now that phrase, "one nation under God," in the Pledge has been attacked recently. Michael Newdow, he brought a lawsuit saying that the Pledge of Allegiance was unconstitutional because it violated separation of church and state. He brought that lawsuit in San Francisco, and the ninth circuit court of appeals ruled that the Pledge of Allegiance was, indeed, unconstitutional because it violated separated of church and state and endorsed God and religion.

Now wouldn't that just be a horrible, terrible thing if the United States of America were to say that we are one nation under God, that we would endorse God? It's amazing how the revisionists want to take our history and rewrite it and write God completely out of it.
