We are drawing to the end of the first MAJOR section of Romans. Remember, there are five major divisions. Sin, Salvation, Sanctification, Sovereignty, and Service.
This first section has been dealing with the sinful state of humanity or what theologians call DEPRAVITY. Depravity doesn't mean that your are as bad as you could possibly be, but that you are beyond refurbishing, you must be remade, or reborn.
• In Chapter 1 - He address the Greeks and how sin had manifested itself in sexual deviancy in their culture.
• In Chapter 2 - He addresses the Jew and how sin has manifested itself in proud judgmentalism and elitism in their culture.
He has been building to the crescendo of Romans 3:19 (NASB95)
19 ...so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God;
Chapter 3 is the closing argument for the prosecution.
In Chapter 4 Paul will switch sides and take up the case of the defense.
But before he does that he wants to answer any objections that might be raised against his case. He wants to call a few final corroborating witnesses to the stand and seal the deal as it were against humanity.

1. Paul Answers Objections
Paul anticipates three major objection that are radiating in the minds of the people. Some are sincere, some are antagonistic, but he deals with each question.
a. What good is our biblical heritage if it doesn't make us better than the Gentiles?

One might ask after we studied chapter 2 last week, "why then should we go to such great lengths to raise our families in church and teach them the bible if it doesn't make them any better than the lost sinner out in the world?"
