Colossians 3:1-17
We are back in our study of the New Testament book of Colossians thinking under the heading of THE GOD ISSUE. So take God's word and turn with me to Colossians where we will begin reading in chapter 3 in a moment.
I was reminded recently through an email I received, of why we must become consumed with zeal for the house of God, as the Psalmist spoke about in Psalm 69.9. It was an email from a man who attends worship here with a friend. He told me about his brother who had gone through several life crisis and how he had attempted to reach out to him. Recently, his brother had reached a point in his life that he no longer had the desire to live and took his own life, leaving his family in a tail-spin and broken hearts.
In the email, he said, "Pastor, I'm not asking for sympathy. I'm not asking the church for anything. But the one thing I ask of you is this: please continue to take our congregation by the throat and shake us out of our complacency. Our community is full of people just like my brother who needs somebody to reach out to them, letting them know that somebody cares."
That's what Each One, Reach One, is all about! It's about showing somebody that we care and that God cares because we do care and yes, God cares!
The people you know and come into contact with need to know that somebody cares. We are in the rescuing business! We are in the reaching business! We are in the reclaiming business and God is in the redeeming business! And it's this third chapter of Colossians that gives us some practical helps in become the influencers that God intends for us to be!
Now last time together we read about two givens in the life of the God influencer. Until we get the direction of our life right, we will never get the dress of our life right. And that direction was found in verses 1-2 where the Bible tells us to, "… se ...
