We're thinking these days about home building … building homes that not only provides a godly influence, but homes that produce godly influencers! As parents and grandparents .. we not only want to influence our children and grandchildren toward the things of God, we want to see them grow up and become influencers for God!
That ought to be the goal of every parent! Now sometimes parents will say, "Well .. I'm not going to try to influence my children to know God and to love God. I want it to be their decision. I want my children to choose and decide for themselves."
Mom's and Dad's .. keep this in mind: if you don't influence your children FOR God, the world will influence them FROM God. How can you say that you love your children and not want to guide them to God?
The best thing I ever did for my children was to love their mother and to gently guide them to know God!
Your children are being influenced every day from the music they listen to, to the TV shows and movies they are watching, to the people they are running with! And I can just tell you that most of the influences in their life are not driving them to God, they are driving them away from God.
Your children are going to be influenced and God wants parents to be influencing them to pray, to love God, to love His church, to read the Bible and to give God His tithes and offerings!
Proverbs 29.15b, "A child left to himself brings shame to his mother." You let somebody else influence them and that's what you can expect: "shame to his mother," and I would add, "and to his father."
God help us as parents to make God, the issue in our homes, and to be influencing our families toward the things of God. If we would just follow the directions God's given us as parents in Deuteronomy 6.5-9, "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your sou ...
