My Thanksgiving List
Rex Yancey
1 Thessalonians 5:18
A man and his wife on a strict diet, sat down at the table for a meatless meal, all steamed and all green. He looked at what was before him and said, ''You say the blessing. If I thank the Lord for this He'll know I'm lying!''
We are in Thanksgiving week. A week sanctioned and scheduled by the government. But there is a divinely scheduled Thanksgiving Day. Does anyone know when it is? It's today-and tomorrow, and the next day. Daniel 6:20 says, ''Daniel was on his knees three times a day, praying and giving thanks before his God.'' Everyday was Thanksgiving for Daniel, and should be for us as well.
Colossians 3:15 says, ''And be thankful…'' Romans 1:21 says ''Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful, but became vain in their indignations, and their foolish heart was darkened.''
Charles Spurgeon commented on this text. He said ''I cannot say anything much worse of a man than he is not thankful to those who have been his benefactors; and when you say he is not thankful to God, you have said about the worst thing you can say about him.''
I want to give you my thanksgiving list this morning. It is not exhaustive. However, I hope it whets your appetite to think about your own list
1. I AM THANKFUL FOR MY FAITH.
My salvation testimony is far from dramatic. I was a runny nose kid who got saved in Vacation Bible school. Other people might have had their doubts about my decision. However, it was real to me; and to this day still stands as the most important thing that ever happened to me.
I was not a theologian when I got saved. I knew very little about the Bible other than the great faith stories I heard through preaching, Sunday school, and vacation Bible school. But I knew enough that I was a sinner and Jesus died to save me from my sins.
1. Think with me about the stability of the foundation upon which our faith rests.
