I want us to look at several passages of scripture. If you'll turn to James Chapter 4 first of all and then we are going to turn to Romans Chapter 8. First of all James Chapter 4. I'm speaking tonight on the subject, "Praying in the Spirit" and continuing that theme of prayer.
We preached last Sunday night on Victorious Prayer and I want to continue that theme and preach tonight on praying in the spirit. James Chapter 4 Verse 5 is an unusual verse but a very important verse and the verse tells us something about the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
He says, "DO YOU THINK THAT THE SCRIPTURE SAYETH IN VAIN, "THE SPIRIT THAT DWELLETH IN US LUSTETH TO ENVY"?" The Spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? That verse is talking about the Holy Spirit who indwells in the life of every believer and it is telling us that the Holy Spirit in us is very, very jealous for the cause of Christ.
Then in Romans Chapter 8 Verses 26 and 27 the Bible picks up this same theme of the work of the Holy Spirit in our life in prayer. Romans 8:26-27, and I do want you to have your Bible opened to Romans Chapter 8 because I'm going to read several passages out of Romans Chapter 8 tonight.
"LIKEWISE THE SPIRIT ALSO HELPETH OUR INFIRMITES: FOR WE KNOW NOT WHAT WE SHOULD PRAY FOR AS WE OUGHT: BUT THE SPIRIT ITSELF (and let me say that's a very poor translation because it ought to be the Spirit Himself) MAKETH INTERCESSION FOR US WITH GROANINGS WHICH CANNOT BE UTTERED.
AND HE THAT SEARCHETH THE HEARTS KNOWETH WHAT IS THE MIND OF THE SPIRIT, BECAUSE HE MAKETH INTERCESSION FOR THE SAINTS ACCORDING TO THE WILL OF GOD."
Now in this passage and in some other passages and you just jot this down, don't turn to it but Ephesians 6:1 ...
