Joseph, Sovereign Proactivity (3 of 8)
Series: Joseph, Sovereign God
Steve Jones
Genesis 39

SUMMARY: The account of Joseph in Genesis illustrates the doctrine of the sovereignty (control) of God. In this sermon we see that a confidence in God's sovereignty inspires great proactivity.

Introduction: When we last left Joseph he had been framed by Mrs. Potiphar as a sexual predator. How do you like that? Everybody thinks he's Harvey Weinstein when he's really Tim Tebow! But, as we saw, Joseph maintains his integrity of identity even under these circumstances.

Remember, we're using Joseph as an Old Testament, living example of God's sovereignty. To say that God is sovereign over us is to say that God is our ruler. To say that God is sovereign over the WORLD is to say that God is in control of ultimate outcomes.

Rom. 8:28 ''And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love him and are called according to his purpose.'' Joseph believed that God was weaving the disparate threads of his life together into a divine tapestry that would one day make sense. Because he believed this, he responded to his adversity with courage and integrity. He reminds us to do likewise.

Today, as we move into the next chapter of Joseph's life, a chapter that will cover about twelve years and take Joseph from the age of eighteen to the age of thirty, I want us to see how his knowledge of God's sovereignty filled him with the initiative. Joseph was proactive. Let's break it out.

Joke: This reminds me of the flier for the missing dog that read: ''Missing dog; blind in left eye, 3 legs, crooked tail, answers to the name of 'Luck ...
