Luke 22:7-23
The Lord Jesus asked His disciples to remember Him. He gave them bread and wine-reminders of a broken body and shed blood. This was how He wanted to be remembered.
I. What We Mean by "the Blood."
A."The blood" as metony, e.g. "The White House announced today…"
B. "The blood" as life force, "the life of a creature is in the blood." Leviticus 17:11
C. "The shed blood," the life poured out, the life laid down.
D. The blood of the cross, the sacrificial death of the Lord Jesus.
II. What We Know About the Background.
A. The connection between the Last Supper and the Passover. See Exodus 12:1 30
1. "Christ our passover Lamb." 1 Corinthians 5:7
2. The lamb without defect (Exodus 12:5); Christ without sin (Hebrews 4:15).
3. The substitutionary sacrifice (Exodus 12:27); "Poured out for you" (v. 20).
4. The application of the blood (Exodus 12:7); "do this in remembrance" (v. 19).

Part 4: The Glory of the Cross

Galatians 6:11-18
Paul talked about "boasting" or "glorying" in the cross, in marked contrast to those who were undermining both his reputation and his ministry. His apparently extreme statement requires careful examination for he calls it a rule that all God's people are to follow.
I. The Glory of the Cross-It Gave Us a Crucified Savior. v. 14
A. It is the cross of "Jesus," who came to save His people from their sin.
1. Sin's penalty.
2. Sin's power.
3. Sin's presence.
B. It is the cross of the "Lord Jesus," Gk. "Kyrios" Owner, Master, God.
C. It is the cross of the "Lord Jesus Christ," Messiah, Anointed One.
1. Predestined.
2. Promised.
D. It is the cross of "our Lord Jesus Christ," a personal, intimate Savior.
II. The Glory of the Cross-It Produces a Crucified World.
A. A world that glories in appearances, "a good impression outwardly." v. 12
1. Looking good matters…doing good doesn't.
2. Feeling good matters…being good doesn't.
B. A world that glories in achievements, "boast about your flesh." v. 13
