Psalm 23:1-6

David the Psalmist described the experience of knowing ''God With us,'' saying, ''I will fear no evil for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me.'' In understanding and believing this, the heart's true comfort is found.

I. The Comfort that Comes from Knowing His Presence.

A. Knowing who He is-''The Lord is my shepherd.''

B. Knowing what He is-''The Lord is my shepherd.''

C. Knowing that He is-''The Lord is my shepherd.''

D. Knowing where He is-''The Lord is my...shepherd with me.''

E. Knowing why He is-''The Lord...your rod and staff.''
1. The rod to ward off enemies of the sheep.

2. The staff to direct the wayward sheep.

F. Knowing whose He is-''The Lord is my shepherd.''

II. The Comfort that Comes from Experiencing His Provision.

A. The provision of sufficiency-''I shall lack nothing.''

B. The provision of satisfaction-''lie down in green pastures.''

C. The provision of inner peace-''beside quiet waters.''

D. The provision of encouragement-''restores my soul.''

E. The provision of direction-''He guides me in paths of righteousness.''

F. The provision of courage-''I will fear no evil.''

G. The provision of confidence-''in the presence of my enemies.''

H. The provision of joy-''you anoint my head my cup overflows.''

III. The Comfort that Comes from Anticipating His Promises.

A. The Promise for Life-''all the days of my life.''
1. The assurance of His goodness.

2. The certainty of His ''HESED''-''steadfast loyalty.''

B. The promise for eternity-''in the house of the Lord forever.'' See John 5:24; 14:1 3; 1 John 5:11-12

Points to Ponder: Am I sure the Lord is my shepherd? Am I living in good of it?
