Human experience is characterized by "seeking." Everybody is looking for something-knowledge, happiness, purpose. The world's religions emphasize this point: people seeking. Christianity is unique, for it teaches that God is doing the seeking and is drawing people to Himself. But some people are very nervous about it.
I. A Nervous Approach.
A. A nighttime visit. vv. 1-2
1. A matter of pride-"a man of the Pharisees."
2. A matter of prestige-a member of the council.
3. A matter of protocol- "Israel's teacher." v. 10
B. A half hearted intervention. 7:45 52
1. Are there any believers among the rulers or the Pharisees?
2. Was Nicodemus a believer but scared to admit it?
C. A missed opportunity-silent at Jesus' trial.
II. A Nerve Wracking Dialogue.
A. A gracious acknowledgment. v. 2

Part 4: With a Disappointed Woman

In most people's eyes Nicodemus was eminently successful. But he still needed what Jesus had to offer. Jesus' next recorded meeting was with a woman whose life was full of disappointment and pain. To her he offered deeply satisfying life-life eternal. The offer still stands.

1. A first-century, Middle East woman.
2. An ethnic minority.
