3. But note he still asks God!
C. The decision God reveals. 1:5-11
1. It is unbelievable.
2. It is irrevocable.
3. It is incomprehensible.

Part 10: Fear God and Nothing Else

The Bible talks about "fear" in different ways. Sometimes it simply means "to be emotionally distraught," but when it refers to God it means "to reverence or to be awestruck." Accordingly, those who reverence God live "God-fearing" lives but also respect His control over fearsome events.
I. The Fearsome Situation in Jerusalem.
A. The Assyrians had been conquered by the Babylonians.
B. The Babylonians had conquered Judah. 2 Chronicles 36:15-20
C. The Persians had now overthrown Babylon.
D. The exiles had been released by Cyrus. Ezra 1:1-4
E. The work of restoration had begun. Ezra 3:1-13
F. The fears of the people paralyzed the work.
1. People fears. Ezra 3:3
2. Political fears. Ezra 4:1-4, 24
3. Poverty fears. Haggai 1:2-3
