Ephesians 4:1-16
Having outlined God's revelation concerning the church and after praying that the Ephesians would grasp its significance, Paul exhorted them to implement a lifestyle characterized by the unity to which they had been called. This is our calling, too!
I. The Exhortation to Unity. vv. 1 3a
A. The exhortation to be consistent-"worthy of the calling."
B. The exhortation to be considerate.
1. Humility-"lowliness of mind."
2. Gentleness-"strength under control."
3. Patience-"slow to anger."
4. Forbearance-"mutuality of attitude."
5. Love-"concern for the well-being of the other."
C. The exhortation to be constructive-"make every effort to keep the unity…"

Ephesians 4:17-32
God's people are called to live in a way that is worthy of their calling. Therefore, they must be sure of their calling and committed to behavior that is appropriate. Paul gets specific! The extent to which this is done determines the church's credibility or lack thereof.
I. Changed Lives Present a Challenge. v. 17a
A. The challenge of being called. See 4:1
B. The challenge of being commanded-"insist on it in the Lord's behalf."
II. Changed Lives Presuppose Conversion. vv. 17b 24
A. The former way of life (walk). vv. 17b 19
1. "Hardening of the hearts" led to…
2. "Ignorance that is in them" which resulted in…
3. "…Darkening in their understanding" and…
4. …Being "alienated from the life of God," which produced…
5. …A loss of "all sensitivity" and a giving over "to sensuali¬ty," and indulging in all kinds of "impurity" and a "con¬tinual lust for more."
6. In short, a life lived "in the futility of their thinking."
B. The new way of life. vv. 20 24
1. Based on response to "the truth that is in Jesus."
