Hebrews 1:1-4
The Hebrews, to whom this letter was written, were in danger of abandoning the faith, because they had not grasped the uniqueness of Christ and His offer of grace to help in time of need. They needed "purification for sins" (1:3). He provided it.
I. God Has Spoken, but What Did He Say? vv. 1 3a

A. About His purposes-through the prophets.
1. His desire for fellowship-ruined.
2. His offer of forgiveness-provided…
a. The promise of Messiah.
b. The principle of atonement. See 9:22
B. About His person-through the Son.

III. Christ Has Ascended, but What Did He Accomplish? v. 3b
A. He provided purification for sins.

The ancient Greeks believed in a god called "Phobos," meaning (panic) "so strong and dauntless (as) to strike terror even into the heart of a hero." Phobias, or fears, still dominate people's lives-especially "thanatophobia."
I. The Fear of Death.

1. Secular death. Hebrews 9:27
2. Spiritual death. Ephesians 2:1
3. Second death. Revelation 20:14
B. The reality of fear.
Fear is "anxiety caused by the presence or nearness of danger, evil or pain" (Webster's).
