Proverbs 9:10
The pursuit of happiness comes more readily to mind than the pursuit of holiness and to many people the former is more appealing than the latter. However from God's point of view we can only understand life and enjoy liberty when we respond appropriately to His holiness.
I. The Fear of the Lord Is the Beginning of Wisdom.
A. The quality of our lives is related to our system of values.
B. "Values" in the modem sense and Biblical "wisdom" are similar. Proverbs 1:2 5
C. Both have a beginning, a first principle.
D. What is the connection between fear of the Lord and wisdom? Job 28:20f
E. Therefore knowing and acknowledging Him are fundamental.
II. Knowledge of the Holy One Is Understanding.
A. The meaning of Holy.
1. "To cut," "to separate," "to set apart." Genesis 23; Exodus 3:5; 15:13

Isaiah 6:1-13
When Isaiah the prophet "saw the Lord" he was overwhelmed with a sense of divine holiness and human sinfulness. In those days there was a tendency to disregard both holiness and sinfulness with devastating results. A similar situation exists today.
I. A Vision of Divine Holiness. vv. 1 4
God's "otherness" (holiness) means, among other things, He is not like us.
A. No authority like His-"Adonai." v. 1
1. He determines correct action. 1:2f
2. He determines actions have consequences. 1:18f
3. He determines how consequences will happen. 5:26f
B. No adequacy like His-"Jehovah." 40:12f
1. The everlasting God. 40:28a
2. The Creator of the ends of the earth. 40:28b
3. The whole earth is full of His glory. v. 3
