Part 1: What You Believe Matters
Series: Christian Belief And The Modern World
Stuart Briscoe
Romans 4:17-25
The ancient creeds of the Christian Church were formulated to form a solid base of teaching, to counter heretical incursions and to make public confession of faith easier. Christians in the modern world still find them helpful. We will study the Apostle's Creed.
I. The Importance of Belief.
A. The psychology of belief.
1. Making sense out of experience.
2. Absorbing ideas from subcultures.
3. Discovering security in conclusions.
B. The theology of belief.
1. "(We) believe that he exists…" Hebrews 11:6
2. "By faith we understand the universe…" Hebrews 11:3
3. "By grace you have been saved through faith." Ephesians 2:8

Part 2: I Believe in God
Series: Christian Belief And The Modern World
Stuart Briscoe
Exodus 33:12-34:9
In a recent youth survey 84% said they believed in God but only 10% said that God had "a great deal" of influence on how they lived. More than 80% wanted religious weddings and funerals but only 0.5% would seek religious counsel. Man may be, in Burke's words, "by his constitution a religious animal," but the God of his religion apparently needs clarification.
I. Belief in God-a Sense of Authority.
A. Conclusions about him.
1. From reason.
a. Ontological.
b. Cosmological.
c. Teleological.
d. Moral.
2. From revelation. 33:19
a. "My goodness will pass before you."
b. "I will proclaim my name to you."
