I. The Joy that Comes Through Faith.

A. The ground of faith. v. 6a
1. The revelation of the Father's mercy.

2. The result of the Son's ministry.

3. The reality of the Spirit's presence.

B. The growth of faith. vv. 6b-7
1. Growth in value-"greater than gold."

2. Growth in validity-"proved genuine."

3. Growth in valor-"all kinds of trials."

Peter, because of his circumstances, was particularly concerned that his attention should be focused on lasting values, and he wanted to ensure that other believers would take their salvation seriously. This is a prime need today.
