Proverbs 5:15-23
The need to control sex and at the same time give it adequate expression is a problem for every society. Sex uncontrolled will lead to all manner of illegitimate sexual activity outside of marriage, but sex unappreciated will lead to inadequate sexual expression within the confines of marriage. Sex within marriage involves:
I. The Foundation of Mutual Commitment.
A. The nature of mutual commitment.
1. The exhaustive nature…“thine own.” Song of Solomon 2:16
2. The exclusive nature…“only thine own.”
3. The expensive nature…“well, cistern.” 19:14
4. The extensive nature…“wife or thy youth.” 2:17
B. The nurture of mutual commitment.
1. The well-being of the well. Genesis 26:15-18
2. The care of the cistern. Jeremiah 2:13
3. The forsaking of the fountain. Jeremiah 2:13

Giving warning of impending disaster is one of the most necessary and least appreciated functions of human society. The Scriptures do not sidestep the issue but meet it head on. So must we.
