Part 3: I Live in the Body
Series: The Life I Now Live
Stuart Briscoe
Galatians 2:20

Paul's use of expressions like "I have been crucified with Christ" and "Christ lives in me" leads some to assume that spiritual life is mystical or impractical. But the specific statement that it is lived "in the body" should be noted and the resultant issues carefully considered.

A. "The life I now live." 2:20

B. "My previous way of life." 1:13

C. The factors that made the difference.

b. God "called me by His grace." 1:6, 15

c. "God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts." 4:6

Part 4: I Live in the World (4 of 5)
Series: The Life I Now Live
Stuart Briscoe
Galatians 6:14

Writing to the Galatians, Paul explained that he had "died to the law." (2:19) He had been "crucified with Christ." (2:20) He had "crucified the sinful nature." (5:24) In addition he told them that through the cross "the world has been crucified to me and I to the world." (6:14) These startling statements deserve our attention.

I. The Context of Paul's Statement About the World in Which He Lives.

A. He is dealing with a major controversy.
1. The gospel he preaches is being diminished by legalists and nomists.

2. The opponents of the gospel are confusing the believers.

3. The motives and actions of these people are questionable to say the least.
a. They are inconsistent; they don't practice what they preach. v. 13

b. They are more concerned about outward form than inner reality. v. 12

c. They are afraid of persecution related to the message of the cross. v. 12

Series: The Life I Now Live
Stuart Briscoe
Galatians 5:1-6

Paul's statement, "The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love," succinctly answers the legalists who imposed "Law" and the libertines who abused "Liberty." It reminds us all that genuine believers live by faith and show it in love.

D. But committed to Christ-the faithful One. 2:20
