Value

Value is a word that we throw around in conversations daily. It is by definition: the relative worth, utility, or importance of something.

If something is not worth anything, it has no value.
Things that don't cost us anything will have little or no value to us.

Buffet example - no cruises for me.

Jesus said there would be a cost to being his disciple. But there is also a great value to it.


Luke 9:23 Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.

I believe that everyone that is here this morning falls into the category of an "anyone" desiring to come after Jesus. The term "come after Me" means to arise, to come forth. The reason I believe this to be true is then WHY WOULD YOU EVEN BE HERE? If you didn't want to be here, you didn't have to be here. This is not school or work. This is church and you are those that are PURSUING CHRIST.


Does the cross have value to you?

if it doesn't cost you anything, it really has no value
If we never pick up our cross and die to self we will never experience the value of the cross. There is another side of the cross - the resurrection side. Jesus, for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God...

In the following story in 2 Samuel, David had sinned against the Lord by numbering the people. His sin was one of pride because it was not the numbers of men that were winning David's wars, it was the favor of God! So in this story God punishes David and there is a plague on his people.
