2 Corinthians 8:1-15
The Greek word for "stewardship" is "oikonomia" which is the root word for "economy." Originally it meant "managing a household" or "handling resources belonging to another," but in Biblical usage it began to refer to a special Christian characteristic.
I. Stewardship as Desire.
A. A contrast-a tale of two churches.
1. The church in Corinth. 2 Corinthians 8:6-12
a. Exceptionally gifted.
b. Not particularly generous.
2. The churches in Macedonia. 2 Corinthians 8:1-5

A. W. Tozer said that, "Worship is the missing jewel of the evangelical church." This was not the case of the early church. We need to study the subject with care, because God is seeking those who will "worship Him in spirit and in truth."
I. Understanding Worship.
A. The meaning of worship.
1. Worship-weorthscipe-"to attribute to…"
2. To prostrate, to bow down. Psalm 95:6; 1 Corinthians 14:24-25; Revelation 4:10
3. To serve. Psalm 116:16-17; Philippians 3:3
4. Worship is response to revelation.
5. Worship is directed to God. Acts 13:2 (cf. evangelism, nurturing)

The Church in Jerusalem began to impact the city in a dramatic way. Even though persecution resulted, the enthusiasm was not diminished-it was dispersed. So began the growth of the Church worldwide. They had learned how to be disciples. Now they were making disciples.
I. They Were Endued with Power from on High. Luke 24:49
A. Their enlightenment. v. 39
1. About Christ. v. 39
2. About scripture. v. 45
3. About salvation. v. 46-47
B. Their enrollment.
1. They were witnesses.
a. One who ascertains the facts-Peter. Acts 2:36-39
