We all know you can't please all the people all of the time, so most of us don't try. More and more people seem to be intent on pleasing themselves. But what about pleasing God (Colossians 1:10)?

I. An Affirmation. "You are living as you ought-pleasing God."

A. They had received instructions.
1. "Instructions"-Gk. "paraggelia"-soldiers passing message. v. 2; e.g. Acts 16:24

2. Authority-Lord Jesus.

B. They had been inspired.
1. Moral persuasion-"ought."

2. Personal encouragement-"urge and beseech."

3. Spiritual development-"walk," "more and more."

C. They had made decisions.
1. Initial decision. e.g. Paul, 2 Corinthians 5:9

2. Continual decisions. 1 Thessalonians 2:14

II. An Amplification. vv. 3ff "You please God by doing His will."

1. His purpose-a clearly stated objective.
