Part 14: Spiritual Pride
Series: Getting Things Straight
Stuart Briscoe
1 Corinthians 4:6-21

God has let it be known that he "resists the proud…" (1 Peter 5:5). He has told us that "pride comes before destruction…" (Proverbs 16:18). This was another of the Corinthian problems. They were "puffed up" with the worst kind of pride-spiritual pride.

I. How Spiritual Pride Can Be Expressed.

A. Through "superiority complex." v. 6
1. One against the other in comparison.

2. One against the other in hostility.

B. Through "self-confidence." v. 18
1. We are independent of leadership.

2. Leadership is in awe of us.

C. Through "special considerations." 5:2
1. Principles don't apply to us.

2. We don't need discipline.
