Delusion is belief in something contrary to fact or reality. It can be caused by deception, misconception or false perception. Paul was convinced the Corinthians were deluded about their own spirituality.
I. Some Delusions of Spirituality.
A. The causes of delusion.
1. Deception by the Deceiver. Revelation 12:9
2. Misconception of the truth.

3. False perception of facts.

B. The characteristics of delusion.
1. An inflated view of personal condition. v. 8

"Church discipline" is the action taken by a fellowship against one of its members whose activities may be jeopardizing his own spiritual well-being and the life and testimony of the "Body."
I. The Application of Church Discipline.
A. Its necessity.
1. The deterioration of moral standards. vv. 1-2
a. Contemporary thinking rather than biblical truth.
b. Confusion of liberty and laxity.
c. Contentment without discipline.
2. The insinuation of heretical teaching. Galatians 1:6-9; 2 John 7-11
a. By discovering what is basic.
b. By denying what is unacceptable.
B. Its objectives.
1. To restore the culprit.
a. By forcing him to recognize.
b. By encouraging him to respond.
c. By leading him to repentance.
