Isaiah 61:1-3 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; he has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn,To console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.
Acts 26:18 To open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.
The Gospel is the message of hope and power for every individual who responds to the gospel message. In order to respond to the gospel, the gospel must be preached correctly and by the power of the Holy Spirit. As the Gospel is preached-- by every believer -- definite, specific, expected results will follow. In this message, we wish to define clearly the gospel and the effects of the gospel upon all who embrace the gospel.
I. THE GOSPEL DEFINED
A. The Old Testament Hebrew
1. In the Old Testament the Hebrew word means proclaiming "good news", bringing news of a victory or declaring a victory. A messenger comes from the place of battle and declares victory over the enemy or the death of the opponent. The messenger is a bearer of good news.
2. Historically, it is the messenger with "news of victory". The messenger appears, raises his right hand in greeting and calls out with a loud voice.
