Romans 7:1-25
Paul's statement, "You are not under law but under grace," while wonderfully true, is often woefully misunderstood and misapplied. This section examines the believer's relationship to the law.
I. The Believer's Release from the Law. vv. 1-6
A. An illustration. vv. 1-3
1. The law of marriage.
2. The release from law.
B. An application. vv. 4-6
1. Mr. Law is holy (v. 12), good (v. 13), spiritual (v. 14), demanding
(Galatians 3:10).
2. Mrs. Law is frustrated, humiliated. v. 5
3. Mr. Law dies (analogy convoluted!).
4. Mrs. Law is free to remarry.
5. Mrs. Law becomes Mrs. Risen-From-Dead.

Romans 8:1-13
Paul frequently used the expression "in Christ Jesus" (vv. 1-2). To be "in Christ Jesus" means to have a vital faith-relationship with the crucified and risen Christ. Great benefits and responsibilities accrue to those who enjoy such a relationship.
I. Benefit #1: No Condemnation. v. 1
A. Condemnation passed upon all. Romans 5:18
B. Now no condemnation. Romans 8:1
C. Because God condemned sin in the flesh. v. 3
1. He did what the Law could not do.
2. He did it in His Son.
3. He sent Him in likeness of sinful flesh.
4. He sent Him for sin (offering).
II. Benefit #2: No Bondage. v. 2
Note: The three spiritual laws.
