I. WHAT FORGIVENESS REALLY MEANS TO ME AND FOR ME
A. Forgiveness is a gift from God.
I can't work up enough goodness to receive it. It's free. It's already paid for by Christ. I receive by faith.
John 4:10 Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water."
Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
B. Forgiveness is a personal, internal process that happens within me.
It is the feeling of wellness, freedom and acceptance. I start new.
Eph 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
C. Forgiveness allows me to become a forgiver.
Mt 18:21-22 Peter came to Him and said, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?" Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.
