Luke 8:1-21
Jesus told a deceptively simple, everyday story about common agricultural life, and used it to teach serious, profound truth about the kingdom of God, people's reactions to it, and the lasting consequences of their reactions.
I. Proclaiming the Kingdom. vv. 1-3
A. The earth is the Lord's.
B. Man was established as steward of God's earth.
C. Man surrendered to Satan who is now the Prince.
D. God has determined to restore His rule - His kingdom.
E. When Christ came the Kingdom was announced and demonstrated.
F. So we pray - "Thy Kingdom come."
II. Parables and the Kingdom. vv. 4-15
"Parable" = "a comparison" - an earthly story with a heavenly meaning.
A. An explanation of parabolic teaching.
1. Disciples asked, "Why do you teach in parables?" Matthew 13:10
